Ok, i have some ‘splainin to do, first of all, the Waking The Fallen review is coming, i just haven’t had time, and the new killswitch engage album is streaming on myspace, so lets review!
Killswitch engage is a band from massachussets. they make great metalcore music, and their newest (second) self titled album is straming and will be out in a week, is it a masterpiece? or is it metalcore’s st. anger? see in this track by track review.
Never Again-starts out very well, with screaming and all. verrry metal. GREAT chorus, guitar work is nice, back up vocals are nice and work.nice breakdown indeed. nice opener. 5/5
Starting Over-Another excellent intro with random shouts lol. great power chording at the start.cheesy lyrics, but its killswitch, what do you expect? Ok chorus. lovin the random drum solo lol.i love the bridges in this song!breakdown is good, and more shabby choruses, but it works. 4/5
The Forgotten-Driving intro starts this as a could be anthem, then goes in a different direction.chorus is good as well.i absolutely love the metallica-esque riffs in the verses.the guitar interlude to breakdown is excellent.very reminicent of As daylight dies. 4.5/5
Reckoning-I absolutely love this song, from the chorus to the verses to the-well, everything is excellent, way too short though.very killswitch 5/5
The Return-Starts very slow ans quiet, then picks up with howard singing softly (which is unheard of) this song has a quality that words cant explain to me, it moves me. the chorus is the highlight, the most unique so far, i absolutely love it, even more than reckoning, ladies and gents, the new “end of heartache” 5/5
A Light In A Darkened World-Starts off with fast instruments and screaming. chorus is very power chord heavy and singing is top notch, too short at 2:50, has a message saying “get yo ass up and stand up for wut u believe in son!” good song 4/5
Take Me Away-holy shiznat bizzynatch, this solo at the beginning is sexy, and howard’s singing is similar to The Return, great lyrics, excellent chorus, great song 5/5
I Would Do Anything- weird intro, but i love it Back to the screaming, lovin this, very metal, very killswitch, chorus is great, but does not live up to the inro, incredibly fast, but well paced. incredible riffs in this song, the instruments steal the show here 4.5/5
Save Me-another good intro,very melodic, harmonized guitars are used alot in this one, a speechy breakdown like “daylight dies”, mix between daylight dies and rose of sharyn. good song 3.5/5
Lost-starts slow and nice, dual vocals is different at the start, nice verses, chorus is excellent, sing-along-able, very nice song, i can see this being a hit with new listenerprobably the slowest song on thi record 4/5
This Is Goodbye-fitting name lol, as it is the last song here.fade in intro, very unique for them, very fast in the verses, great harmonizations, the screaming makes a comeback, excellent chorus, its obviously about wanting to die, and its fitting, as the theme is rejection and fading away in this album.dare i say *gasp* better than “reject yourself”, the last album’s closer, very heartfelt. great 5/5
well, that was an excellent album, pick it up and dont have any second thoughts, listen to it on myspace first though if you are already a fan, it might dissapoint you
